Together with Østerskov, Vesterskov forms the remains of the much larger and partially contiguous medieval forests from the Little Belt above Christiansfeld and to the northwest to the so-called Farrisskove. Approx. in the middle of the forest to the west there is a burial mound (Høghøj), in addition, in the northern part of the forest south of Thomashusvej, remains of a settlement from the Roman Iron Age have been found. In the southern part of the forest, you can find many old landmarks from the German forest division around 1870.
In addition to Kongeegen, where Frederik IX had his permanent post during the royal hunts, the southern part of the forest also offers "The loving couple" - oaks and the beech tree which, a little against the order of nature, "embrace" each other.
In the forest there are a number of facilities that can be used freely by visitors, e.g. a nature playground, rain reading room, dog forest as well as hiking and running routes.
So put on the good walking shoes and go out and enjoy Haderslev's beautiful nature. You can find an overview of the routes here .
