On selected dates you can have a very special experience in Haderslev. at Højgade 6, in the basement under the city's old police station, you can get the story of the Haderslev Watchmen's Guild and the stories connected to being a watchman. In the exhibition, there are various props that tell the history of the guards, and you can see some of the tools that have been used to torture and mutilate prisoners over time.
In many Danish market towns, various guard arrangements arose in the 1300th century to ensure peace and order in the streets at night, and to prevent and fight fires. From approx. 1550 first Copenhagen and then the cities Helsingør, Kolding, Ribe and Haderslev and others. actual night watchmen who were to provide oversight and peace and order in the city's dark streets.
Haderslev Kjøbstads Vægterlaug was resurrected in 2004. Suits and equipment are true copies of the 1700th century watchmen, as they looked in Haderslev and the Duke judges.
A visit to Haderslev also means a trip with the guards. It is therefore a great experience for young and old. Hear the wall verses and the exciting stories about Haderslev. The scales can be experienced on the 'Vægtergangen' in the city's old streets in weeks 26-35 Tuesday and Thursday starting from the Cathedral at 20:30. Duration approx. 1 1/2 hours.
