Christina Friis has had her hand in clay since her early youth and in 2002 she was trained as a Potter, followed by a semester at the Århus Academy of Arts. She creates modern utility ceramics in a simple and contemporary design. Form and function are given priority, and the surfaces speak to the sense of touch.
The ceramics are series and theme made, but all products are completely unique; All work processes are done by hand. Some are hand-turned, others are cast, while everything is decorated and glazed by hand.
Christina focuses on creating ceramics with a vivid expression that speaks to the senses and arouses the curiosity of the hand. The tactile qualities are experienced in the contrasts that break in the surface between the matte and the glossy, the uneven and the smooth, in the materiality and structural differences.
You can find Christina's ceramics at several retailers, but here in Haderslev you should not deceive yourself for a visit to her workshop in the idyllic courtyard at Ehlers Samlingen. Here you can admire Northern Europe's largest collection of pottery and ceramics, and buy the handmade, beautiful objects directly from Christina Friis.
The workshop is open when Christina is present or by appointment - keep an eye on the flag in front of the workshop.
