The school consists of a village school from 1856 and an extension from 1907.
The school room from 1907 focuses on the reunification period from 1920 until 1945.
The school room is furnished with early 20th century school furniture; the oldest school furniture and the bulletin board are from before reunification in 1920, i.e. from German times, and the newest from the 1950s. The large board was put up after the reunification and bears traces of several decades of use. None of the school furniture originates from Over Lerte School, but are gifts from other places in Southern Jutland and from the Museum at Sønderborg Castle. In the 1930s, the school room accommodated over 50 children from 1st to 7th grade.
In the museum hall tells 3 boards about 3 important periods in Southern Jutland and Danish school history, and in 3 display cabinets concrete examples of both German and Danish teaching materials and student work are shown, the oldest is a calculation book from 1799. Here you can also see writing, dictation and style books, drawing work and craftsman from the 1890s to 1945.
How the teacher has planned the teaching of all children in the same classroom can be seen in 2 curricula, one from 1872 and one from 1909, both from German time. Old school pictures show serious, well-educated children and strict-looking teachers, while the smiles are promoted in newer pictures - here you can see a snippet of developments among teachers and students.
