Visit the world heritage site in Christiansfeld
The town was founded in 1773 by the German Herrnhuters (Brethren) at the instigation of King Christian VII, hence the name Christiansfeld. The Herrnhuteres were skilled craftsmen and traders. They created a city of coherent architecture, consistent use of particular materials and colors, as well as attention to detail and rooted in their strong Christian faith. Faith, which is at the heart of life, mindset and urban planning with the church and God at the center.
Today, the city has been lovingly restored and the special architecture, materials and colors make it something unique.
At Christmas time you can enjoy the beautiful Herrnhuter stars with lights in, hung in the streets around the Prettori Square and Church Square.
The Brethren Church is an Evangelical Lutheran Free Church with the same confessional basis as the Danish National Church. The fraternity is also called Herrnhutere, and these can be traced back to 1415. The fraternity is presided over by the Elder Council, which is largely similar to the church council of the Folkekirk.
